Tidbit Tuesday - PPOC

While doing my own search for a photographer for my annual family photos, I realize that so many photographers put very little on their websites about themselves.  I find this so odd, because in my opinion, the person behind the camera is just as important, if not more important than their portfolio... so I decided to write a little something about me over the next little while.  Every second Tuesday, I will write a little tidbit, naming the blog posts, Tidbit Tuesday.  This week's Tidbit is all about an association I'm a part of, the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC).  You can check out their website, Here

We are so proud to be an accredited member of the PPOC.  We currently hold an accreditation in weddings, and working on our accreditation in families.  What does that mean?  Here is some great information from the PPOC website.

Why Choose an Accredited Professional Photographer?

PPOC’s accreditation process recognizes photographers who have reached a nationally accepted standard of proficiency and knowledge in photographic arts. Achieved by submitting samples of photography to a PPOC Board of Review, this peer-reviewed program challenges candidates to demonstrate their capability of delivering exceptional quality photography in a chosen category.

As a specialist in their chosen field, a PPOC Accredited professional photographer has the proven experience, knowledge and equipment to provide you with a quality product in their area of expertise.

Why become a member?

PPOC welcomes photographers of all genres to join our community.  Meet new friends and mentors and take advantage of the wealth of experience and knowledge.

PPOC offers photographers a way to rise to professional status.  Educational opportunities, networking, direct member benefits and the ability to earn awards and designations will assist in your potential for growth and economic improvement.

Once an Accredited member, your personal area of specialty and images are promoted on our website so clients and other photographers making referrals know who to contact.

There are currently only a handful of photographers who hold an accreditation in weddings in Saskatoon, and we are so proud to be one of them!  This is really the only type of organization across Canada that recognizes and holds photographers to a higher standard.  In my opinion, this shows so much more value to our clients.  When in reality, anyone can go out and buy a camera and start up a Facebook page.  How do we separate ourselves from the rest?  We keep pushing ourselves to become the best photographers we can be, as there is so much competition in Saskatoon.  The PPOC helps us achieve that.

A backyard wedding - Saskatoon Photographers

This gorgeous bride is a family friend to my husbands family.  She grew up right across the alley from them and I have seen countless home videos of her as a child.  I was so excited when she called me to capture her intimate backyard wedding.  Of course, I said yes!!!  My day started at the hotel where I captured the ladies getting ready for the big day.  We headed over to the grooms sisters back yard where they said their vows, then did a quick session with them before we ended up at O'Sheas for a drinks and appys.  (Where the couple met!).  Then only a couple of hours later, they hopped on a plane and headed to Vegas for a night of celebration with around 50 of their closest family and friends.  While I was a little bummed we didn't get on that plane, I was fortunate enough to capture their memories of the wedding here.  Throughout the day there were a few tears and a lot of laughter.  It was one of the most beautiful days we had last October!  Here are a few images from their very special day.  Thank you for having me!

Passionate Love - Saskatoon photographers

I feel so fortunate to have met this couple.  Like 95% of all of our wedding bookings, they were a referral.  They are both so kind, and their passion they have for each other is something I love to photograph.  It always makes my job so easy when you can plainly see how in love our couples are.

They were complete naturals in front of the camera.  It was a very emotional day, the love was in the air and the connection between the bride and her father was so amazing.

Here are a few favorites from their day.  We had the pleasure of capturing the ceremony/formal portion of the day, as well as the reception.  Isn't the décor so classy?

Saskatchewan farm wedding - Saskatoon photographers

Weddings.... I truly love to photograph them.  I just got an email saying "We want to book you!" and I get sooo excited!  I love that I absolutely love my job, and get excited about something that is over a year away:).

I was so fortunate to be a part of this couples big day.  They got married on her family farm near Wynyard, and it was a gorgeous setting for their vows.  The pastor made the ceremony so personal and included a ton of different stories from all of their family and friends.  I think it was one of the best ceremonies I have ever witnessed.

The families are both farmers and both have a love for different tractor companies, so, of course, we had to do a few shots of the rivalry, lol.  It also gave us the opportunity to shoot some shots in their fields, which is something I typically avoid if the couple doesn't know someone who owns the land.  The couple was so kind.  They are the type of people who I would have over for a drink on a Friday night.  Just so awesome!

I could go on and on about them and their day, but I will let the photos speak for themselves.  Here is a taste from their big day.  Cheers!

Happy New Year!

Hi there!  Welcome to our brand spankin' new blog!  We have had the same blog since we opened up shop, almost 8 years ago.  I figured it was time for a much needed upgrade.  So here it is, our brand new blog to showcase our latest work!

While I was going through images for our new website I found some behind the scenes shots that you've probably never seen before.  So here they are, some behind the scenes shots from my second shooters from different weddings over the last few years.  While, it may not be exciting, its fun to see how I create some of the images I get, from interesting angles, to bribing kids for smiles.  Here they are folks!  Behind the scenes with Memories by Mandy Photography.
