We are currently accepting applications for our 2020/2021 program that starts in October.

This program is designed for people who want to learn all the ‘ins and outs’ of starting and maintaining a profitable photography business.  Applicants must possess a positive mindset and have the drive to succeed in turning your love for photography into your livelihood.   Typically, only a maximum of 3 applicants will be accepted on a year term. Due to COVID we are only doing one on one mentoring at this time.

Who would benefit from the program?  If you are starting your own portrait photography business, or have been in business for 3 years or less, this program is perfect for you!

How long is the program?  One year

How much time do you need to commit to the program?  We will be doing one 1-hour, in-person session per month at our Saskatoon Photography Studio, as well as 10+ hours of homework per month.  In-person sessions have been set and always fall on a Sunday, unless another day works better for everyone in the class.

How many people are accepted into the program?  Due to Covid, we are only offering one on one mentoring at this time.

What will be covered in the program?

Photography:

-Review on camera modes, ISO, shutter priority, Aperture priority, and manual mode.

-A comprehensive overview of your camera functions:  metering, white balance, etc.

-Lighting, how to see and use natural lighting, as well as studio lighting. 

-Posing individuals and groups.

-Photoshop - beginner to intermediate.

-A practical application of your program theory: Live shoots using real people!

-Lens selection

Photography Business Management:

-Website management and effective social media usage.

-Branding - Not just logos, but the process involved in creating an overall image for your business.

-Marketing - We dedicate a class to marketing, plus a reading assignment and workbook.

-Pricing for your photography business and how to know your break even point.

-Developing an action plan to start your own successful photography business.

-By the end of the course, you will have completed a business plan. (This is an essential part in starting any type of business!)

Prerequisites:

-Must have basic understanding of the manual functions of your camera.  If you don’t have this, we suggest you take our beginner DSLR course before Mentorship program starts.

-A positive attitude and a strong willingness to learn!

-Commitment to one 1-hour session per month in Saskatoon as well as 10+ hours of homework per month.

-Your own digital camera/lens(es).

Cost:  Registration is $339, and includes materials for the course. Plus $339/month.   Please contact us for an application form.  

If you don’t want to commit to the whole year and just want to pick my brain for an hour the cost is $400/hr for Saskatchewan residents for a zoom call. (Discounted to $300/hr for anyone not living in Saskatchewan).

About your instructor:

Mandy is a credentialed photography mentor serving up-and-coming Saskatoon photographers since 2007. Her credentials include the following:

-2006-2007: Obtained a Photographic Imaging Technician Diploma from McKay college.

-2007: Completed business course through Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan.

-2007: Began professionally photographing with Memories by Mandy Photography.

-2008: Started doing photography full time.

-2006-present: Mandy attends 1-4 workshops per year as continuing education and professional development.

-2016: Speaker at PPOC-SK Provincial Conference.

-Current: Member of the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC).

-Current: Accredited in Weddings through the PPOC.

-Mandy has been shooting portraits professionally in Saskatoon and area since 2007.

-Award winning photographer! 

-Most recent award includes 2018 Best wedding portrait in Canada through the professional photographers of Canada. 

-2019 nominated for photographer of the year through PPOC-SK.
